We’ll harness economic potential of Gaani festival to drive development in Kwara – Speaker Danladi

The Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu says the present administration under the dynamic leadership of His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON would harness the economic and tourism potential of the Gaani festival to drive socioeconomic development in the state.

 

Rt. Hon. Engr. Danladi-Salihu stated this while speaking with newsmen during the 2023 Gwanara Gaani festival held at the weekend.

 

“Gaani is a festival where the Prince and Princess and the people of Gwanara emirate wherever they are, all over the world, come down to witness the annual celebration of cultural heritage and tradition in the Borgu kingdom to strengthen love, peace, unity, progress and trans-border relations of batonu speaking people in Nigeria and the Benin Republic”, the Speaker noted in a statement issued on Saturday.

“Beyond cultural festival, Gaani also serves as a means for enhancement of social and economic development as it boosts tourism and economic activities of the participating communities across borders. The Kwara State Governor His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON has done wonderfully well in his first tenure in office to explore and enhance this opportunity of economic development and I am confident he would do more, going forward”

 

“As legislators, we have resolved to continue to support the Governor in his quest to harness the economic and tourism potential of Gaani and other similar cultural festivals across the state in order to move Kwara forward”

 

The Speaker appreciates and congratulates the Emir of Gwanara, Dr. Idris Sabi Abdullah OFR, the Emirs of Okuta, Ilesha, and Yashikira Emirates as well as the people of Gwanara emirate especially the Organising Committee for the 2023 Gaani festival on the success of the cultural event.

“My message to our people is first to thank them and urge them to remain law-abiding, be peaceful and patient with the present administration as Gov AbdulRazaq is already working to sustain, consolidate and surpass the achievements recorded in his first term in office”, he concluded.

 

The annual cultural and colorful occasion featured horse riding, different cultural dances, music, and acrobatic displays among others and it was attended by scores of Kwara lawmakers in the 10th Assembly led by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ojo Olayiwola Oyebode, and some members of the 9th Assembly led by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Raphael Ọlálékan Olanrewaju Adetiba and the Assembly management staff led by the Clerk Alhaji Ahmed Olayiwola Kareem.

Others are Hon. Usman Lade commissioner for water resources and supervising commissioner for youth development, Abdullah Bata commissioner for Local Government government and chieftaincy affairs, Aliyu Kora Sabi Dudu commissioner for planning and economic development, the APC Chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi and Deputy Alhaji Sanmari Abdullahi, Alhaji Tajudeen Audu Makama Lafiagi), Dr Kolo Jiya (Haske) among other top government functionaries.
