Government at various levels have been urged to construct more dams across nooks and corners of the country to curtail flooding which usually destroy lives and property.

A lecturer in the department of Agric Extension and Rural Development, University of Ilorin, Dr. Kareem Waheed made the call in an exclusive interview with  Lanre Omotoso in Ilorin.

Dr Waheed said construction of more dams would enable the country to harvest excess rain water that always destroy farmlands, store and put them to use for agricultural purposes during dry season.

He also advised farmers to construct underground tanks to harvest rain water to be used for their farming activities when there is scarcity of water during dry season.

The agriculture lecturer stressed that rainfall during April to July had been altered due to climate change, stated that efforts must be put in place to cover such loss through irrigation for food security.

While noting that India, United States of America and some Asian countries build underground tanks and dams to harvest run-off water, Dr. Waheed emphasized that such could be replicated in Nigeria for all year round farming.
