Kwara Gov. Visits Tertiary Institutions To Ensure Compliance With COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

As schools reopened in Kwara State amidst second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Hajiya Hafsat AbdulRahman, has paid an unscheduled visit to some tertiary institutions within Ilorin Metropolis to assess level of compliance to COVID-19 protocols as dictated by Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control and the World Health Organisation.

Institutions visited were Kwara State University, Malete; Bartholomew College of Health Technology, Shao; Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin; College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin; College of Education, Ilorin and College of Nursing and Midwifery, Ilorin.

The Permanent Secretary commended authorities of the institutions for putting in place necessary measures such as provision of hand washing basins, sanitizers in strategic positions and wearing of face masks by all the students and lecturers to curb spread of the virus.

Hajiya Hafsat AbdulRahman enjoined all tertiary institutions in the state to keep to the rules until the curve of the pandemic is flattened, directing that any student or visitor who refuse to observe the protocol especially wearing of face mask should be turned back.

She implored management and COVID-19 Committees of various institutions in the state to ensure compliance and work towards addressing areas of deficiency as monitoring would still continue.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Omololu Fapojuwo told the Permanent Secretary that the institution’s committee on COVID-19 provided adequate number of face masks, hand sanitizers, thermometers and hand washing basins across all faculties and departments while the institution was fumigated ahead of reopening.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor thanked Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the on-going rehabilitation of the road from Ilorin to the institution.
