Kwara NUJ Election: Ministry of Communication Does Not Have Anointed Candidate

The Permanent Secretary of the Kwara State Ministry of Communication 

Alhaja  Rabiat Mopelola Abdulrahman, has affirmed that the ministry does not have an anointed candidate in the forthcoming Kwara NUJ elections.

The permanent Secretary made this known while speaking when the campaign train of Abdullahi Dare Akogun visited the ministry to solicit for votes from members of the state information Chapel.

Represented by the Director DPFS Alhaji Hassan Taiye Afodun, the permanent Secretary who commended Akogun for his campaign style which focused on issues and plans for the union urged all other contestant to emulate him and abide  by the rules guiding the election.

According to her “The Ministry of Communication does not have any anointed candidate as we are duty bound to maintain our neutrality in this election.

” Journalism is about the development of the community, the state and the nation as a whole, if the NUJ has responsible leaders the state would move forward.

” I am impressed with your speech and programmes as you focused solely on issues plans for members and how to move the union forward, please keep up the good work, let me use this opportunity to urge other candidates to take a cue from this so that the election will be held in a peaceful environment, “she added.

Earlier in his speech Akogun said that his ambition to become the state chairman of the council is borne out of the yearnings of concerned union members for representative democracy, inclusive governance and members welfare.

According to him  “a union where a new marketing models to aid media development so as to meet its financial obligations and commitments in the changing phase of the economy,  where every member will be proud to call our own, be proud to associate with and carry out our duties and obligations to the union willingly because of trust in its leadership.

“A great example of what to expect if we are voted into power, is the way we  rose up as a group to fight the injustice and plan to destabilize our camp when one of your own, Hajia Masurat Kannike was disqualified from contesting this election. But with unity of purpose, we were able to get the decision reversed and she is back in the contest.

“That’s what we will be bringing on board if you trust us with your vote at the polls on July 10, 2021” he declared.

Akogun added that if voted in as Chairman he will ensure that the union , collaborate with the ministry of Communication to bring to the fore, government activities, information, policies and developments witnessed across the State, and offer advice when necessary on issues, in a way that would be beneficial to the general public.

Other Directors present at the event are the Director Information Services Mr Ayobami Akanbi, Director Orientation Alhaji Fatai Dan Kazeem, Deputy Directors Alhaji Jimoh Salau and Mr David Olarewaju.
