The Kwara State Government has appealed to Organized Labour Unions in the state to understand the predicament of government in meeting their demands by going back to the negotiation table with the government rather than staging protest.

The Acting Chief of Staff, Kwara State Government House, Princess Adebukola Babalola made the appeal in Ilorin on Monday as she declared open this year’s Weekend Edition of Nigerian Indigenous Language Programme (NILP) organized by National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) in collaboration with Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps NSCDC.

The programme was at the instance of the Zonal Coordinator National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), North Central Zone, Alhaji Ibrahim Lawal for officers and men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps.

The occasion which took place at NSCDC Kwara State Command Hqtr Ilorin, the programme which starts from 20th of October, 2020 to 12th December, 2020, shall feature four indigenous languages- Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and Nupe.

Princess Babalola who was the Special Guest of honor at the occasion said that the present administration under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq places high premium on the welfare of workers.

She said that since the inception of this government, salaries are being paid even before the month ends while arrears of salaries left behind by the previous government were also receiving various levels of attention

While explaining that the larger percentage of Federal Allocation to the state is being used to pay workers’ salaries, she said no serious government would allow other aspects of governance to suffer.

She added that it was very reasonable for labour unions to agitate and make demands, but they must do so in such a way that would not disrupt relative peace of the state.

She noted that bad elements could take advantage of legitimate protest to perpetrate their evil acts, thereby disrupting activities of government and other law abiding citizens.

She attributed the influx of people to the state to relative peace being enjoyed by the residents of the state thereby creating additional responsibilities for the state government.

She urged residents of the state to be ambassadors of peace by not taking advantage of relative peace for granted.

“In as much as the protest was legitimate, coming to round table for understanding one another remains the best way to finding appropriate solution to grievances of any sort. The Labour knows what Kwara State gets as FAAC. So, let us be ambassadors of peace by making sure we settle crisis even before it manifest,” she said.

The representative of the State Governor urged the Civil Defence to educate people they come across in the course of their civil duty. This she said will help greatly in arresting the unexpected.
