Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, recently rated the second best university in Nigeria, has been thrown into darkness, due to N29 million debt being owed the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC).
The electricity company has cut off power supply to the University since the end of February, 2021.
The University cannot even boast of generator powerful enough to take care of all the faculties and departments hence the management had resulted to rationing of electricity supply by the generator to two hours for each department.
Maxilensnews learnt that evening lectures have been affected by fhe situation as darkness usually enveloped the classrooms resulting in some cases students using the torchlight on their phones to illuminate the classrooms.
Most of the lecturers have now resulted into online teaching for their students because of the situation.
“It is now common sight in the campus students coming from class sweating profusely as if they had run a marathon race due to the heat generated by the lack of electricity. The situation is really terrible,” said a student.
Students and lecturers have been lamenting and they are seeking the intervention of the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the matter.
