We Didn’t Authorize Erection Of Mosque Beside Church- Kwara Planning Authority

The Physical Planning Authority PPA as disassociated self from giving approval for constructing a Mosque Umul Hairat memorial central mosque located beside Catholic Dioses Church at Tanke Junction area of Ilorin the Capital of Kwara State.

General Manager of the Kwara State Physical Planning Authority, TPL Sikiru Abiodun Oyinloye denied the involvement of the PPA in the construction at a Press Conference held at the headquarters of the PPA in Ilorin.
He said the owner of the Mosque and Church were the ones that agreed that both worship centers should operate side by side.

The General Manager explained that the approval given to the owner of the mosque was for a business Mall before he converted it to Mosque .

Mr Oyinloye said that PPA gave approval for a business Mall but the owner of the project decided to build a mosque on the land.

He explained that, by law, ” there are guild line that we follow before an approval can be giving for construction of Mosque or Church.
He added both the owners of the Mosque and the Church later came to our office to informed us that a memorandum of understanding has been reached by both parties and that the two worship centers should be allowed to operate”.

The General Manager also announced that the Physical Planning Authority has commenced massive demolition of illegal structures across the State.

He shops in at two different locations, Fate area and Sabo line Isale both in Ilorin metropolis have been demolished because they were awarded with Certificate of Temporary Occupancy CTO, by the Kwara State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development .

According to him, “the CTO implies that such building or shop with CTO could be demolished any time by the authority but would be given just 7 days notice to vacate properties “.

He explained that, “as at the time they were presented with CTO documents by the Kwara State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development , they were also given prototype “.

Oyinloye mentioned that it mandatory for all land owners to approach the PPA before they could erect any structure on their lands to receive advices.

The General Manager informed that, the affected shop owners were served letters to vacate their structures from the place severally by the PPA.

He also mentioned that, the demolished shops have earlier marked for demolition for so many times, but their owners proved sturbon.

Abiodun explained that those demolished shops were built on places where government reserved for Electricity piles, road set back,walk ways and other public use.

He announced that the demolition exercise on the illegal structures is a continues exercise, however solicited for support from media towards educating the people on the dangers associated with the illegal structures.
