All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, Kwara State Chapter has commended the State Government over its proposed recruitment of more teachers even as it also calls for school mergers for better service delivery.

The Kwara State ANCOPSS President, Alhaji Toyin Abdullahi gave the commendation during their monthly State Executive Council meeting held at the Anglican Girls College, Iludun-Oro in Irepodun Local Government Area of the State.

According to the ANCOPSS President, Alhaji Toyin Abdullahi, recruitment of more teachers will go a long way in addressing the insufficiency in teaching staff at the primary and secondary schools most especially at the grassroots level.

He advised the government to allow the prospective teachers to teach at their respective local government areas for a number of years before any posting to other parts of the state to ensure commitment to duty.

Alhaji Toyin Abdullahi, who also expressed appreciation over the recent mass transfer of teachers to rural areas, however, called on the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, to look into the issue of some of the transferred teachers that have some challenges.

In an address, Chairperson of the Oro Zone of the ANCOPSS, Mrs Adeleke Janet, expressed concern over proliferation of schools and called for mergers to ensure geometric progression in the academic vision.

Mrs Adeleke Janet also solicited re-introduction of boarding system to restore the lost glories of schools as according to her boarding system entrenches a better learning atmosphere and academic proficiency.

Addressing the ANCOPSS members at his palace, the Oloro of Oro, Oba AbdulRafiu Olaniyi Ajiboye, described teachers as nation builders, saying that no country could develop beyond its level of education and urged government to give adequate attention to teachers.
