University Don charges Government on investment in Broadband to enhance E-Learning

Those in authority have been urged to invest heavily on infrastruce such as broadband and electricity to enhance electronic learning in the country.

Dean, Faculty of Communication and Information Science, University of Ilorin, Professor Rasheed Jimoh gave the advice in exclusive interview with Correspondent Lanre Omotoso.

Professor Jimoh said developed countries have taking education to a level where students did not need to converge in four wall of classroom, but can access education wherever they may find themselves.

He maintained that geographical location could not be a constraint to education anymore as developed countries through artificial intelligence have upgraded to electronic learning.

The university don explained that high cost of data and electricity are some of the factors militating against electronic learning in the country.

He stessed that high cost of diesel to power base stations of telecommunication industries have resulted to high tarrif of data, calling on government to do the needful.

Professor Jimoh emphasized that despite the lockdown ocassioned by COVID-19 globally, developed countries did not suspend education through electronic learning, noting that education is continous process that must not be interrupted.
