Future Success of Agro-Business Depends on Women- NCAM Boss

The need to encourage women in agro processing industry through periodic training and empowerment in the use and maintenance of agro processing machines has been stressed

The Executive Director, National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, NCAM, Ilorin, Kwara State, Dr Muhydeen Kasali stressed the need at the closing of training on skill acquisition and empowerment programme for women on the use, operations and maintenance of agro processing machines, held in Jimba, Kwara State.

Dr Kasali who identified women as major actors in the agro processing industry said continuous training and empowerment of women in the sector, especially on the use and maintenance of agro processing machines, would enhance productivity and food sufficiency in the country.

The Director of Engineering, NCAM, Dr Isaac Ozumba, in his remarks at the ceremony explained that the two weeks intensive training was to empower women whom she described as principal partners in agriculture, on rudiments agro processing.

He said the the training had also added value to knowledge of participants by exposing them to chains of opportunities in the agro processing industry and use of agro machineries.

Array of product such as ground nut cakes, palm oil, soya cake among others produced by the sixty participants during the training were exhibited as certificate of participation and starter pack were also presented to them.
