Youth have been urged to imbibe and exhibit the virtues of hard work, discipline and patriotism which are essential to become responsible and resourceful adults in the future.

Wife of the Kwara State Governor Dr. Olufolake Abdulrazaq stated this today during a virtual presentation of 150 Pieces of Solar Lamp to students of Tertiary and Secondary schools in the state on the occasion of 2020 International Day of the Girl Child held at the government house, Ilorin.

Dr Olufolake said international Day of the Girl Child celebrates the importance and potentials of girls around the world as it is also a day to highlight girls’ needs and the particular problems they are facing.

The Governor’s wife emphasised the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life, not only during the critical formative years, but also as they mature into womanhood.

She said if the adolescent is effectively supported, girls have the potential to change the world as the empowered girls of today and as tomorrow’s workers, mothers, entrepreneurs, mentors and politicians.

Dr Olufolake said the theme of this year’s International Day of the Girl Child which is “My Voice, Our Equal Future” also gives credence to the advocacies in ensuring fair chances for women and girls just as it is a testament to the fact that a secured future is assured when the girl child is seen and heard.

Earlier in his remark Director of School Services at the State Ministry of Education, Abubakar Ahmed urged the students to maximize the use of the materials given to them as it will add value to their education and also promote reading culture.

The students represented by Sofiat Umar from Government Secondary School Afon and Ishaq Abdulmajeed from Government Secondary School Ilorin appreciated Kwara first lady while praying that God should continue to bless and enrich her.
